Although Worldwide started as a pandemic tournament, and many believed it will soon be over once the situation gets better, big number of players that regularly play in the competition is sure proof that this is not a temporary pandemic thing, but a full-fledged, biggest online competition for children. Tournament featuring 8 divisions, Worldwide U12 achieved the biggest attendance ever, (including the former U11 category that was played in the spring of 2020, during worst COVID-19 Crysis), setting a new record on 875 players… Fantastic!!
СШ 2 Кстово (Kstovo, Russia) is back on top, while Ajedrez Educativo Primarias Rio Negro (Argentina) managed to get second place again. The third is another Argentinian team: UEC Coronel Pringles. Very nice performance gave the team of Ученики И.Погорелова (I. Pogorelov’s Students, Ukraine), securing fourth place. Then follow Club Ferlonichess (Argentina), Schachfreunde Gern-Pasing (Germany) – first appearance in group A, Botvinnik Chess (Moscow, Russia), Africa Chess Future Club (a combined team of south African countries), Сборная Шахты (Shakhty, Russia) and Chess Chile Escolar.
In Group B, three teams that made best performance are Jeugd NL_U12 (Netherlands U12 team), Chess Shoots Juniors (Bangalore, India) and Ajedrez en PERU. Those teams will be promoted to Group A for the next event. Several new teams from Europe appeared, climbing their way to higher groups and competition continues to grow.
At current time, Eastern Division features the biggest teams. Winners are Sharp Kids (Philippines), Cuttack_Little_Chess_Champions (Cuttack, Odisha, India) came second and CMJ U12 Optimum Kids Team (Chess Master Journey, Malaysia) third. Read report on U12 Eastern winners.
América Division was dominated by Ajedrez en PERU, followed by Veracruz México and Chess Chile Escolar coming third.
